About

The Reelfood Project is an initiative of the Foundation for Building Sustainable Communities (fbsc.org) to educate the public about growing their own food.   The goals of the Reelfood Project are to:

1. Create an online resource for growing food.

2. Promote home farming.

3. Develop educational programs by:

• Designing teaching gardens to showcase ways of growing edible plants in creative and beautiful ways in backyards/community garden plot;

• Hosting Community Kitchens for cooking, canning and preserving classes;

• Creating apprenticeship and certification programs

4. Screen food related documentaries.

 5. Advocate for food security.

Reelfood  is about:

• healthy lifestyles

• growing and eating locally produced foods;

• education and the ease of planting and harvesting fresh, organic fruits, berries, herbs and    vegetables on their own property to become more sustainable.

Currently food travels more than 1500 miles to reach our table losing many beneficial nutrients, increases carbon emissions and lead to food insecurity.  To guarantee delicious, fresh, healthy, organic fruit, vegetables and herbs, is to grow your own.   There’s nothing quite like the wonderful scent, colour and flavour of home grown fruit, vegetables and herbs.
